FIRST POINT OF CONCERN: Salem, OH
Train cars were seen sparking and on fire.
Feb. 3, 2023 at 8:55 pm
POINT OF DERAILMENT: East Palestine, OH
53 Train cars carrying dangerous chemicals derailed.
Afterwards:
EPA and Ohio Fire Department planned a "Controlled Burn"
This released toxic vinyl chloride and other carcinogens into the air

Significance within the context of sustainability: Limited Number of resources -> Derailment destroying more resources
Unity Council for East Palestine
Represents affected residents, and all the people of East Palestine affected by the derailment
The mission: community oversight board to ensure the right of the people to martial clean air, water, and soil
The purpose: the community of East Palestine to band together to help resolve issues stemming from the train derailment

Conclusion
Our main contributions were writing a grant proposal to fund mental health services as well as creating various media campaigns to bring attention to East Palestine. Our impact is creating a lasting service that any East Palestine resident can go to for various free mental health services.
