On February 3, 2023, a Norfolk Southern train derailed in East Palestine, Ohio. This introduced toxic materials into the environment, causing long-term effects on the citizens of the village.

The Unity Council for the East Palestine Train Derailment represents residents of East Palestine and surrounding areas who have been impacted by the train derailment on February 3rd, 2023. 

We're applying for the Children's Mental Health Initiative grant from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA). We are applying to this grant to bring more accessible mental health services to East Palestine, Ohio so that children and young adults who have been negatively impacted by the derailment are able to heal.

The focus of our Public Service Announcement (PSA) is to spread awareness about East Palestine, Ohio and how they need a disaster declaration. We chose to use raw unedited footage of East Palestine after the derailment to draw our audience in and to evoke emotions from them, so that  they would see our call to action to help East Palestine obtain a disaster declaration. Our PSA was uploaded on TikTok, due to it being a popular platform among the younger generation, so that more people would see what has happened in East Palestine.
