Consider using the PLS Questionnaire to assess the children you are working with prior to implementing the PLS program to identify which skills are already in their repertoire and which skills you need to focus on more.
Use the Considerations for Sequencing PLS page to decide the order in which you will teach the skills.
Use the PLS Lesson Plans to introduce and teach each skill at circle time, small group, or individually.
Provide many opportunities throughout the day for practicing the new skill. Use the PLS Teaching Opportunities for Each Lesson to practice each skill. Aim for at least 10 practice opportunities per day for the skill you are targeting.
Commit at least two days to teach each skill and at least four days for intentionally practicing each skill. This may vary based on the children you are working with and data review.
Review the data for each child and reteach any skills that children are not consistently performing independently. The Goal Summary Sheet and the Tracking Sheet may help you identify the skills each child needs further assistance learning.
Use the Fidelity Checklist to guide consistent and accurate implementation of the program.
