Goal: a community to facilitate collaborations

• introductions and icebreaker

• if applicable: share results of the survey you did to inventory important talking points

• facilitate discussion to develop collaborative manuscripts around important talking points (consider allowing speakers to sign up to multiple topics)

  • encourage presenters to explore creative and innovative ways to share their expertise with the SICB membership at the annual meeting and with the ICB readership through manuscripts

  • encourage presenters to share any concerns they might have about publishing an article in a scholarly journal; presenters who are considering not to submit a manuscript might not be eligible to have their registration fee covered by SICB, presenting organizers with two options:

    • Option 1: collaborate with ICB to develop an article type that suits the expertise and voice of the presenter, so the presenter can submit a manuscript to ICB

    • Option 2: use symposium funds to refund the presenter without a presenter submitting a manuscript

• share plans for additional events associated with your symposium to get feedback and develop additional ideas, such as a workshop, lunch brown bag, panel discussion, ask-an-expert booth, outreach event, social

• invite ideas for finding additional funding

  • reminder: January 31 deadline to submit and receive a free color figure in the paper edition

  • reminder: March 31 deadline to submit manuscript to receive reimbursement for conference registration fee

• encourage authors to invite co-authors that are NOT presenters at SICB to complement the expertise of the current author teams

• encourage author teams to meet separately from this general presenter meeting

• reminder: encourage presenters to share any concerns they might have about publishing an article in a scholarly journal

  • if applicable: collaborate with ICB to develop an article type that suits the expertise and voice of the presenter, so the presenter can submit a manuscript to ICB and get reimbursed for their meeting registration

• report on progress with planning additional events associated with your symposium
