Lukie Broesel, M.S. in Marriage, Family, and Child Counseling and B.A. in Psychology (Profile updated January 2026)
Lukie is currently transitioning from a trainee Marriage and Family Therapist (MFT) to an Associate MFT. Lukie has worked with children, adolescents, adults, couples, families, and groups in both in-person and telehealth settings. Lukie's professional goal is to work primarily with LGBTQ+ teens and adults in community settings or private practice.
Reflecting on her path, Lukie emphasizes the importance of mentorship, networking, and asking questions early and often. As she shares:
“Nobody expects you to have everything figured out. Don’t be afraid to reach out to faculty, alumni, current students, or others in the programs or positions you are interested in.”
Lukie also encourages students considering graduate school to learn about the realities of program structure, scheduling demands, and practicum requirements. Lukie is happy to connect with students about preparing for and navigating MFCC programs, working as an MFT trainee or associate, and the transition from graduation to professional life.

Muneeb Afnani, M.A. in General/Experimental Psychology
(Profile updated January 2026)
Muneeb is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Human Development and Family Studies, with a concentration in Diversity, Youth, and Family Development at Michigan State University, and has a long-term goal of becoming a tenure-track professor. During his time at Fresno State, Muneeb focused on strategically building skills essential for doctoral training, including experience with statistical software, data analytic internships, and presenting at national conferences. Reflecting on his preparation for graduate school, Muneeb emphasizes intentionality and growth. As he notes:
“There are so many opportunities out there, but learning to strategically take on the ones that directly support your goals is a skill that continues to develop beyond your undergraduate career.”
He also encourages students not to equate graduate school readiness solely with grades, sharing that:
“The strongest scholars are the ones with humility and a passion to learn and grow.”
Muneeb is happy to connect with students who have questions about applying to doctoral programs, pursuing research opportunities—particularly in psychometrics and culturally relevant measure development—or learning more about the General/Experimental Psychology program at Fresno State.
