I was fortunate enough to gain the support of many community members and completed my competition with some remaining funds, which have been used to provide the laptop for this opportunity. "Nyob Zoo. My name is Brandon Xiong. I'm an incoming freshman at Merced College. My intended major is Business Administration. My brother and I live with my disabled father and elderly grandma. Recently, my uncle and his children moved in with us to a small, 4-bedroom house in central California. We have had an unstable income for the last 5 years because my father had a minor stroke and open-heart surgery, so he was unable to work for over 3 years. My older brother is currently attending a local 4-year institution, my older sister lives in southern California and attends a 4-year institution, and I’m left with no choice but to attend a 2-year institution after I graduate from high school because my father just couldn’t afford another child attending a 4-year institution due to financial hardship. Each day, life gets harder for my siblings and me, but we are committed to continuing this life journey with optimism about our future. We believe that if we work hard enough, we will get the help we need along the way and succeed. With help from organization or individual such as this one, I will continue to pursue my education and someday give back to my community for helping me when I need it most.
