Jacob Dotson

Position of interest: PresidentGrade: Sophmore Major: Biology

Hello,

My name is Jacob Dotson, and I am a sophomore Biology student at Fresno State. I am running to be your 2019-2020 President. During the 2018-2019 school year, I served the Fresno State Pre-Medical Club as Conference Coordinator. From my time spent with this position, I have learned essential skills in discipline, planning, dedication, and leadership. As a current officer, I understand the great commitment this position holds, and I’m ready to accept the challenge. From attending various office meetings and planning events, I have gained an in-depth knowledge in what is expected of the president position, and I welcome the challenge. I am so incredibly thankful to have had to opportunity to serve the Pre-Medical Club during the 2018-2019 school year. If I have the pleasure of serving as your 2019-2020 President, I vow to give the position my absolute best and continue the tradition of planning events such as the Spring Break Medical School Trip and collaborate with other officers and club members to ensure that we are best serving all club members. I am elected as your Present, I assure you that I will work tirelessly to continue the legacy of the Pre-Medical Club, while offering a fresh perspective in leadership and opportunities presented to all members. Planning the Pre-Health Conference has been one of the most daunting tasks I have partaken on, and I affirm that the work ethic and dedication exhibited from my role as Conference Coordinator will transpire if I am given the opportunity to serve as President. Thank you all for your consideration, and I hope that you give me all the opportunity to serve as your 2019-2020 President.

Nicole Phillips

Position of interest: Vice-PresidentGrade: Sophmore Major: Biology

My name is Nicole Phillips and currently a sophomore studying Biology hoping to also receive minors in Chemistry and Women’s Studies. This past semester, I was lucky enough to be elected as Secretary where I became very familiar with the club. Throughout my time spent as Secretary, I’ve learned how important it is to note specific details discussed in meetings in order to provide reference for the discussion making process. This position has also allowed me to learn about how the club operates in decision making while seeing how each officer contributes to the club. After holding this position, I now feel that I understand and can handle the responsibility of Vice President or Justice. As Vice President, I would represent the club exceptionally by working as a team with the other officers to provide the best resources and services for the members of the club. I plan on staying updated and well educated on what’s going on in the club so I may represent the club if the president is unavailable. As Justice, I would provide a happy medium for the club by giving resolutions to club disagreements in a matter that would please both parties involved. Both these positions are of great interest to me and I’m very excited to see the future development of the Pre-Medical club and provide my perspective in future club decisions. If elected, I plan on utilizing my current knowledge to present the best possible resources for the members of the club and provide them with information to guide them through their pre-medical path.

Annette Gonzalez

Position of interest: Treasurer Grade: SeniorMajor: Biology

Hello Premedical Club Members,

My name is Annette Gonzalez and I am running for the treasurer position. I believe my business background will help me be a great and productive treasurer. Prior to returning to Fresno state to become a physician I was a financial consultant where I managed 200+ client portfolios. If I can manage those client portfolios and make their money work for them, then I believe I can open many opportunities for the club financially. I would like for our club to be at a point financially where we are not limited to the amount of activities we think would benefit us and that would get us closer to becoming great physicians one day. I have many great ideas for the club that I would like to implement if given the opportunity. Thank you for taking the time to read my speech! :)

Kelly Meehan

Position of interest: Public Relations or Volunteer Coordinator Grade: Junior Major: Biology

My name is Kelly Meehan and I am very excited to run for Volunteer Coordinator or Head of Public Relations! I am pursuing a B.S in Biology with minors in both Chemistry and Deaf Studies. As a member of the conference committee I have been able to see behind the scenes of how the club works and have had the opportunity to learn from the officers. By attending the spring break trip, I have also been able to get to know and bond with several members which I feel I can use to better understand the needs of our members. As volunteer coordinator I feel that I can use these experiences to provide beneficial and memorable experiences and opportunities for members through the pre-med club. I will also be a member of the PAWs program in the upcoming semester and do my best to work with the program in order to provide our members chances to volunteer for wellness events which could allow them to explore a whole other side of medicine. As Head of Public Relations, I feel confident that utilizing technology to our advantage to spread the word about club events or opportunities for students to get involved in activities that will leave a lasting impression and create a great networking system that students can take advantage of. I will also work to incorporate a direct line of communication between officers and students so we can hear exactly what the members want and so we can do our best to accommodate everyone and help them accomplish all of their goals. I look forward to running for, and hopefully becoming an officer for the upcoming year, thank you so much!

Clarissa Marquez

Position of interest: Secretary or Public RelationsGrade: Freshman Major: Biology

Hi there!

My name is Clarissa Marquez, an undergraduate majoring in Biology with a minor in Mass Communication and Journalism. I am eager to run for either secretary or public relations for the Pre-Medical club. As my first time running, a little about myself is that I love In-N-Out, dancing, croutons and dogs. I was apart of the Pre-Medical Conference committee this past semester as well as participated in the Medical School trip, so I have invested my time in this club, learned a little about the ropes and now I am ready to take my membership to the next level. Before college I was the secretary in my leadership class for two years and public relations fits in with my minor, so I believe I can take my skills acquired from these experiences and bring it into the club. I am also a social person, so I am always down to talk, share ideas and laugh. Thank you.

Kwone wheeler

Position of interest: Public Relations or JusticeGrade: 5th yearMajor: Psychology

My name is Kwone Wheeler and I am a 5th year psychology major at Fresno State. Currently, my pre-health interest is psychiatry, but I have been leaning more towards surgery and emergency medicine. While being in the pre-medical club for a year now, I have learned and experienced so much from this club. I would like to be the next justice or public relations officer. As a member of the psychology department, my preexposure to dealing with conflict as an unbiased third party allows me to be able to observe both positions and offer a solution that would be a happy medium for both people, making me a perfect fit for justice officer. In addition, my goal as justice officer would be to defend every member’s interests. As an officer of public relations, I would maintain our clubs favorable public image. I have a fondness for social media, and have previously worked as an assistant with the Fresno State Marching Band’s social media coordinator. That being said, I have a good idea of what it means to keep a good image. Given this position I would want to share our program’s public perception to increase awareness of our work and goals. My ultimate goal for the pre-medical club would be to not only further our knowledge in the medical field, but to have fun while doing it. This club has given me so much over the past year in terms of hope for my chances of being successful in the medical field. I want to use my position to give future members that same hope I was given. I want to let them know that I have been where they are now, and that it is okay to feel worried or anxious, while also letting them know that everyone has a different path and they shouldn’t compare themselves to others. If given a chance to be an officer I will make sure that our club not only represents our mission, but that it will also inspire others to join.
