Subject: Microsoft Azure Contract Completed
Dear ITAC colleagues,
I have excellent news to report – the long wait for an official contract to purchase Microsoft Azure is over. A contract has been signed by Arun Casaba in his role of CSU’s Chief Procurement Officer, as well as by Microsoft, and is in the final processing by SHI.
In the process, the Terms and Conditions were negotiated by Arun with extensive input from Ed Hudson regarding the Information Security implications of the contract and by Cheryl Pruitt with regard to Accessibility. Most negotiations do not yield everything that you want, but both Ed and Cheryl felt that on balance this agreement provides adequate management of our risk in these areas for the most common uses.
You can order (or continue to order) Azure services through SHI. If you have questions about this process, contact Monica Reynolds at Microsoft or Erin Lupo at SHI.
If your ISO has questions about the security review, they should contact Ed. If your procurement officer has questions regarding Ts&Cs they should contact Procurement. If there are questions about addressing accessibility with Azure projects, Cheryl can share what she has learned. We understand that the existence of a CSU contract does not absolve your campus from managing its own risk, but I am confident that most or all campuses will recognize that there has been significant due diligence and will be able to leverage the work that has been done so that your campus procurement process is as smooth as possible.
By the way – more to come soon from Microsoft regarding their proactive efforts to support those campuses that want Azure to play a significant role in their cloud journey. And just to let you know, we are working actively on the successor to the current contract for Windows and Office365 – expect to hear more on this subject in coming weeks.
