This is a yearlong survey course that covers major biological principles through the lens of STEM. Topics to be covered include scientific method and measurement, laboratory safety, biochemistry, cellular biology, photosynthesis, cellular respiration, and genetics. Individual investigations using laboratory and scientific research will be stressed. STEM biology prepares students to be lifelong learners in a STEM career.

Read The Hot Zone by Richard Preston, build a Google Tour of the novel, and culminate in a visit to the CDC Museum in Atlanta.
Design, conduct, and analyze your own lab concerning factors affecting bacterial growth.
Research and propose a solution to a problem in your community such as designing a solar energy retrofit to the new MHS building or building a box to deter armadillo predation of eastern box turtle eggs.
Learn through case studies.
Skype a Scientist
