This was a very valuable project for me to take on, and I learned so much. I love history, so much so that I considered becoming a history teacher for my career. I love learning about all kinds of history, particularly information that affects me and relates to my personal life. Since I am a student at Endicott College, Beverly is my new home in a way. Learning all about this history has always been something that I wanted to do, and this project on Historic Beverly enabled me to do that.
The biggest turning points in my learning was when I physically went to their properties and programs. Reading on their website and walking around the city helped me to learn, but I truly started learning once I physically went to Historic Beverly. Not only did I learn more about the history of this city, but I also learned a lot about the organization as a whole. I saw firsthand how passionate they are about educating citizens of Beverly on its history, and I also saw how interested a lot of these people were in engaging and learning in it.
Overall, combining the readings, explorations, and my own projects, I took a lot away from our exploration in Beverly. I knew next to nothing about most areas of the city, particularly Beverly Farms and Ryal side. The biggest assumption that I made was that the different areas of the city were pretty similar, but I learned through our work that this was not the case. Every week, when we went out to a new area of the time, I saw more and more of the city, and I noticed more and more of the intricacies that the different parts of Beverly have to offer.
