I used to think there were no more good ideas. That people were just using the same things over and over. I've been told that copying is the best form of flattery. However, it's in the way you use an idea that makes it distinguished to you. No one is the same and we all see the world so differently that whatever you put out for yourself will end up beinging unique, even if the basis of the content has been seen before. When I think of Creative Writing I think of pieces of work that have been written with passion in a unique way. There is a specific kind of joy that comes with writing about something you love and before taking this class I never would have thought that I would have the capability to create something with so much expression.
Over the last year or so I have develeloped a fondness for reading that I haven't had before. It has allowed for me to discover new stories and find what I connect to most. I like stepping into situations I wouldn't normally be in throughout my lifetime and seeing things from other perspectives. Like through books, forms of creative writing allow people to step into an unknown world. By reading various forms of the genres we discussed, one of the greatest lessons I learned was language use in different forms of writing. I've gotten so used to writing things that are so straight to the point that I neglected to see the extensive amount of vocabulary there is to use. When forming an idea with words you must not only describe, but visualize what is happening. Throughout this class I have learned how to incorporate different forms of language into certain writing genres. With these new techniques, I feel as though it has allowed me to portray my thoughts in a well processed manor. I have incorporated what I have learned into the pieces I have written and have experiemented with what I feel works best for me.
As a communcations major with a graphic design minor, I hope to become a social media manager in the future. I took introduction to Creative Writing in hopes to learn new ways that I can express myself through writing as I am particularly used to expresssing myself through art as opposed to words. Throughout reaching my career aspirations I will be writing various advertisements and captions in a unique way for different types of companies. By takng this class I hoped that I would get the chance to learn how to appeal to certain audiences in many ways. In the mean time, however, I learned much more than I thought I would.
Although I think there are always going to be aspects of my writing that I can improve on, I feel as though this class has let me recognize my strengths and acknowledge my weaknessness. Therefore, thank you for a great semester. I hope to use what I have learned here throughout the course of my career or any other stops along my journey.
