When winter comes it gets so cold.
I just want the warmth of summer all year round.
At times it makes me feel so small and old,
But my love for home is so profound.
I woke up yesterday and looked outside
To see that the snow had turned things from green to white.
And although at times it makes me want to go inside,
It’s beauty made it worth it and alright.
I guess I can learn to appreciate the winter season
It has hot chocolate, cozy sweaters, and downhill skiing.
And although my dislike won’t get me arrested for treason,
Learning to love it is oh so freeing.
I wish I thought of it like I did as a child,
As a magical time where I always smiled.
Final Sonnet
Summer Loving
When winter comes I’m surrounded by cold.
All I ask is for the warmth of summer all year round.
At times it makes me shrink so small and feel so old,
But my love for home is so profound.
I woke up yesterday and looked outside
To see that the snow had turned the world from green to white.
And although at times it makes me want to go inside,
The beauty of the white blanket sparkles so bright.
As a ghostbusters toy I am brave and tough,
But my small size makes my skills rather rough.
I will keep fighting off the many monsters that come my way
I won’t give up, I am here to stay.
Final Imagery Poem
All I am
Small and grey and made to fight
I use my weapons to capture the monsters without a fright.
You may think I look a little different than normal,
With my square features and little smile,
But I can tell you now, nothing I do will be immoral.
In my fighting stance, legs and shoulders aligned
I go all over the city, starting on the upper east side.
However, even though it’s the paranormal I try to destroy,
All I am is a ghostbusters toy.
A racist world it is
They hate for no good reason
Change is what we need.
Final Haikus
There is so much hate
Racism is not the answer
Spread love and kindness
I don’t understand
People pretend to be real
Accept those around you
People being silenced
We must speak up for them all
Justice must be served
Poetry has never been my strongest suit. I usually think too hard or not enough when is comes to writing a poem. However, I think after reading and analyzing more poetry I have learned to use ideas that are ouside the box. After recieving feedback of my pieces, I saw that I used a lot of unnecessary words and I should dig deeper to find greater meanings. For the sonnet and the imagery poems I was able to add a few lines and reword ideas in order for readers to visualize the poem easier. As for the Haiku poems, since one is so small, I decieded to do a three poem series about the topic of social justice as there is a lot of news on that topic these days. I ended up rather proud of the final outcomes because I could see the improvement from when I first started writing poetry.
