Creative Writing: Final Portfolio

As I've started to read much more, I have experienced more stories and writing styles which have helped me find out what I enjoy in writing. It has definitely helped to become more experineced in the writing process. I have always had a fascination with those that can write so passionately about something that seems so minuscule. I love when authors are able to put what seems like an inexplainable feeling into actual words. It makes me relate to them on another level and shows me I'm not alone in feeling certain emotions. My goal in creative writing is to connect with people. I want to share my stories and experiences in order to form connections.
Within this final portfolio, I chose to incorportate my creative non-fiction piece as well as my poems. Not only do I feel that each of these genres reflects who I am the most, I also think that they show the most improvement between the draft and final piece. I wanted to highlight my strengths and experiences in writing throughout this semester.
When we were first told about creative non-fiction, I was surprised to find out that I had never heard of the genre before. However, as we were learning about this unbeknownst genre I become very intriqued with the subject. Reading about other people's experiences is very interestinig to me, especially when they have a passion for what they are writing about. Once we started reading the chapter on the subject, I knew immediately what I wanted to write about. My creative non-fiction piece depicts the story of my recent study abroad experience that was a significant turning point in my life.
Poetry is the genre that I had the most experience with as I have worked on poetry pieces since high school. Although in the past this topic wasn't my favorite, I have grown to appreciate it so much more. Sometimes poems may seem so small but they generate such great meanings. My poems that are featured are of various topics from things that I have observed throughout the past semester. They tell a story about how I thought about certain aspects of life during this time.
