All SEA-Tech students are encouraged to choose one of the 60+ programs of study at CFCC no later than the end of their junior year (11th grade), so that the college classes they take are intentional and lead to the completion of a college certificate, diploma, or degree. The earlier students choose a program of study, the more likely they are to complete a college credential by high school graduation at the conclusion of their fifth year enrolled at SEA-Tech. That is why choosing an Academy may be the right choice for you.
SEA-Tech students may choose to participate in one of SEA-Tech's four featured Academies listed above, which comprise of clusters of Cape Fear Community College (CFCC) classes in a specific program area taken in a cohort with other SEA-Tech students during 10th and 11th grade. Students may begin these Academies as early as 10th grade based on interest and acceptance to their chosen Academy. Acceptance is based on recommendations using a rubric to evaluate each SEA-Tech student's readiness for college classes.
Students may continue their studies within their Academy interest area by pursuing one of the college's related programs of study in 12th and 13th grades when students will take their remaining required courses on the CFCC campuses to complete their college certificate, diploma, or degree program.
Many of the Academy classes meet on the SEA-Tech campus and some meet on the North Campus with transportation provided by SEA-Tech. Specific Academy class information (class name, time, location, books) will be provided before each semester.
Please see Mrs. Bunn, CTE Coordinator, if you are interested in applying to one of the Academies for next year. Academy selections and acceptance should be made before CFCC Spring registration in March/April.
