“The mission of Plastic Ocean Project, Inc. 501(c)3 is to educate through field research, implement progressive outreach initiatives, and incubate solutions to address the global plastic pollution problem, working with and for the next generation to create a more sustainable future.”
Our Chapter's Focus
Creating our own research from the Cape Fear River as a way to get more students in a lab setting.
Spreading awareness of our local water system, the Cape Fear River, and its relevance to ocean pollution.
Assisting with events hosted by our parent group - "Big POP" - Plastic Ocean Project
Our Partnerships
We can't do this alone! Our chapter has several groups we work with to be successful in the community!
CFCC Chemical Technology Program
For the Ocean Gala
The CFCC Chapter was able to help make sure this night, April 30th, 2022, ran smoothly by helping set up, serve food, mingle with guests, and represent the student population involved with BigPOP
Guests will enjoy dinner, cocktails, oyster bars, and music from local musicians. All of this to enjoy while bidding on our silent auction items donated by 63 generous friends of Plastic Ocean Project, Inc.
Before desert, we will premiere the 11 minute short film promoting our documentary, If the Ocean Could Talk-A voice for the N. Atlantic. This event is a fundraiser to support our film and our Ocean Friendly Establishments!
Shuckin' Shack Fundraiser Night
"A Shuckin' Good Time"
This was our first ever fundraiser, and Shuckin' Shack - Leland was very excited to be our first host! They are a recognized Ocean Friendly Establishment that has helped us with previous events this year. We are so appreciative for their support of this chapter.
On Tuesday, April 5th, from 6-8pm we were able to raise over $100!
We would like to give a big thanks to everyone that came out for dinner and engaging with our chapter!
Sustainability Game Night
CFCC's rival game for the women's basketball team vs. Brunswick Community College held at the Schwartz Center on February 2nd, 2022 at 6pm.
This was the first ever Sustainability had at CFCC! We are honored to be a part of a night filled with information about how to be more eco-conscious in our everyday life in the community.
A special thank you to those that came to engage in conversations!
CFCC Sustainability Technologies
Another special thank you to the donors from Ocean Friendly Establishments!
Surf City Ocean Fest
"Stewardship- Sustainability- Stoke!"
This annual festival held in Surf City each October is organized to celebrate and protect Mother Ocean while supporting other like-minded nonprofit organizations.
On October 8th-9th, 2021, we were able to help bring awareness to the community through supporting "BigPOP" by engaging in conversation about the plastic problems with those in attendance of the festival!
Special thank you to Surf City Ocean Fest for having us there!
