We are currently planning for the year of 2022-2023!
Seabin Project
We are partners with the nonprofit Keep New Hanover Beautiful, in which we service and analyze the contents on the Seabin at the Port City Marina. This requires students to empty and clean the equipment regularly, while following protocols to maintain integrity of the samples to analyze in the lab.
How does a Seabin Work?
"The V5 Seabin unit is a “trash skimmer” designed to be installed in the water of Marinas, Yacht Clubs, Ports and any water body with a calm environment and suitable services available.
The unit acts as a floating garbage bin skimming the surface of the water by pumping water into the device. The Seabin V5 can intercept: floating debris, macro and micro plastics and even micro fibres with an additional filter. By acting as a trash skimmer, the Seabin V5 is also able to clean the water from contaminated organic material (leaves, seaweed, etc…)."

Where are ours?
The Seabins we service are located at the Port City Marina along the Cape Fear River in Wilmington, NC.
We currently help maintain two Seabins, known as "PCM1" and "PCM2"
What We Actually Do With Them
We have to "service" and do general maintenance of the Seabins regularly.
Servicing
Regular visitations to the units to surface clean and empty the contents of the basket as determined by the weather, tide flow, action within the marina, etc. The timing and frequency of these visits can vary.
Maintenance
A monthly, detailed, labor and equipment intensive operation in which we pull the entire Seabin out for a thorough cleaning.
