What exactly are microplastics?

Microplastics are pieces of plastic particles that are smaller than 5mm (millimeters) in size.




What are the most common types of microplastics?

Polyethylene (PE)

Packaging, film, grocery bags, cable insulation, toys, etc.

Polypropylene (PP)

Plastic parts for machinery, equipment, fibres, & textiles.

Polystyrene (PS)

Often for clear plastics like food packaging, labware, styrofoam, building insulation, etc.

Polyamide (PA)

Nylon

Polyester (PES)

High performance thermoplastics such as food and beverage processing, gas separation, etc.

Acrylic (AC)

Also known as plexiglass, mainly used for lenses, paints, security barriers, medical devices, LCD screens, etc.
