Psychology of Gender

Course Information

Psychology of Gender is  a fully online course that is only taught in the Fall semester. It is an analysis of theories and research on how behavioral, cognitive, and emotional processes are impacted by gender. It includes an intersectional critique of biological, psychological, sociocultural ideas of gender, gender continuums from cis to transgender and addresses topics such as stereotypes, relationships, violence, sexuality, work and academics from various perspectives.

Basically we will be examining the myths and stereotypes associated with men and women in our society, the social and psychological gender differences that have been identified in research and theoretical arguments concerning the origin of these differences.

During this course you will be able to relate what we are reading to real life experiences (IRL).

Important Dates

PSYC 25 is an online course with no required on-campus meetings.  For more information about online courses go to distance learning

The orientation for PSYC 25 is totally online, and you will therefore not need to report to an in-person orientation on campus. You will not be able to access the course, including the online orientation, until the first day of classes.

For the Fall session, the first day of class is Monday, August 26, 2024. CCSF online courses are delivered using Canvas. You will receive Canvas log in instructions via your CCSF Gmail account on or shortly before the first day of class. However, these instructions are also posted on the bottom of this page. These instructions will direct you to the log in page and provide detailed information about logging in.

You will then need to wait until the first day of class to log in and begin your orientation. You must log in to the class by the end of the second day of class in the fall. This is equivalent to showing up on the first day of a new class. If you do not show up, and you do not communicate with me about it, I will assume you changed your mind about the course and offer your spot to a student on the waiting list.

Please contact me right away (sacollins@ccsf.edu) if you have trouble logging in to the class.
