General Psychology

General Psychology is a fully online course that has no in person or face to face meetings. This course is a broad introduction to the field of psychology for majors and non-majors. Students explore the key figures, diverse theoretical perspectives, and research findings that have shaped some of the major areas of contemporary psychology. This course also examines the research methods used by psychologists across these areas to study the origins and variations in human behavior.

During this course you will be able to relate what we are reading to real life experiences (IRL).

Important Dates

PSYC 1  is a 6-week online course during the Summer and 16 weeks for Fall and Spring semesters, with no required on-campus meetings.  For more information about online courses go to distance learning . 

The orientation for PSYC 1 is totally online, and you will therefore not need to report to an in-person orientation on campus. You will not be able to access the course, including the online orientation, until the first day of classes.  For the Spring session, the first day of class is Monday January 29, 2024 for the 16 week course. Fall session will begin Monday August 26 2024. 

CCSF online courses are delivered using Canvas. You will receive Canvas log in instructions via your CCSF Gmail account on or shortly before the first day of class. However, these instructions are also posted on the bottom of this page. These instructions will direct you to the log in page and provide detailed information about logging in. 

You will then need to wait until the first day of class to log in and begin your orientation. You must log in to the class by the end of the second day of class in the Fall. This is equivalent to showing up on the first day of a new class. If you do not show up, and you do not communicate with me about it, I will assume you changed your mind about the course and offer your spot to a student on the waiting list.

Add/Drop

Students attempting to add into a class that is full may have the option of getting on a wait list for the class. Student wait listing will continue to be available during open registration prior to the first-class meeting.

During open registration, when a seat becomes available, the next student on the wait list is notified and has 24 hours to respond to a wait list notification before the open seat is made available to another student.

On the morning of the first-class meeting, students will be removed from the wait list. Students then have the option to:

• Monitor the schedule and register for an open seat in an alternative class or;

• Submit a class add request to the instructor of the class
