This class is an introduction to the basic techniques used in stage design for live performance with emphasis on the art of scenic design, through drafting techniques, model making, ground plans, as well as script analysis for the practical application of these skills. You do not need any previous art classes to take this class.

There is no text book for this class but you will need the following equipment and supplies for this course:

• A computer and printer
  • Computer: You will need a computer with fairly up to date operating system. You will need to load a Vectorworks CAD program onto this computer. The program is free to students registered in this class. I will take you through this in class
  • Printer: A black and white printer will work for this class.
• Model building supplies:
  • 8"X 11 1/2" bristol board
  • Black foam core (I may be able to supply this if you cannot find any)
  • An X-acto knife with #11 blades
  • A cutting surface at least 18" but larger is better(best are the self healing types found at craft and hobby shops)
  • An architect's scale ruler (not an engineering scale ruler)
  • A metal straight edge (I recommend Alumicutter but others work fine)
  • #2 pencils
  • Watercolor set or colored art markers
