TRST 1324: Academic Writing 1

Course Information

TRST 1324: Academic Writing 1 is a beginning course in writing with emphasis on sentence mechanics and paragraph development. Credits earned can be used towards CCSF High School Diploma.

Student Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of this course, a student will be able to:

  1. Identify and use the basic structure of a sentence and sentence mechanics.

  2. Identify and apply basic paragraph format.

  3. Compose topic sentences with controlling ideas.

  4. Compose supporting details to develop main ideas.

  5. Use the writing process to compose short paragraphs for distinct purposes.

  1. John Langan and Beth Johnson. 2015. English Essentials. Townsend Press.

  2. Instructor-prepared materials such as practice exercises identifying and fixing fragments, comma splices, & run-on sentences
