English C1000 introduces college-level reading, essay writing, and research strategies. Students learn how to read actively and critically; to find, evaluate, and cite source texts for their own writing projects; and to write essays that convey their own views as well as demonstrate an increasing command of sentence grammar and complexity.

English 1AS is a support course that offers students in the linked section of English C1000 additional instruction, guided practice, and individualized feedback as they acquire college-level communication skills. The work of English 1AS is embedded in the English C1000 course shell, so students will experience these linked sections as a single 6-unit course.
