CCSF offers a convenient way for students to receive FREE online tutoring through NetTutor. NetTutor provides live tutoring in most subjects. We encourage you to take full advantage of online tutoring via NetTutor. NetTutor tutors are available for live sessions, to answer submitted questions, and to review papers 24 hours a day, any day of the week. All questions and writing submissions to NetTutor will be returned with your tutor’s comments within 48-72 hours.

As a currently enrolled credit student at City College, you can connect with a tutor immediately. All NetTutor tutors are highly qualified professional tutors, available anytime day or night! If you are taking a course using Canvas, click the NetTutor link in the course navigation menu to access a tutor. If you do not see NetTutor in your Canvas shell, complete this NetTutor Request form.

The English Lab is now offering online writing tutoring for students who need assistance with their assignments. Students have the options to either book an appointment with an English Faculty member through Zoom or submit an essay to receive feedback at a later time. VitalSource Helps: Online E-Textbooks

Please note that this is not a CCSF or CCSF Bookstore-affiliated resource. This is a catalog of e-textbooks from many major publishers which is available free through May 25, 2020. Anyone with a ".edu" email address can register for an account.

  • How to register and search the site:

  1. Go to https://bookshelf.vitalsource.com/ and make an account.

  2. Once you make an account, they will email you a link

  3. Click the link in your email to finish signing up

  4. Once you're signed in, go to the search page, and search for your book (searching by ISBN is the most efficient)

  5. Click on the picture of the book, and then click "borrow."

  6. It will open up in your online browser. There are even options to print, bookmark, and virtually highlight the pages. There are also app options that you can learn about on the site.

  7. You're all set! Now you can search to see if VitalSource has your other textbooks. Learn more VitalSource Helps.

Digital Literacy Project

If you need any type of support, please contact Maica Porcadas for any questions or concerns. The Digital Literacy Project (DLP) can provide you technology support to help you with online classes or online assignments. Common support topics include:

  • How to navigate Canvas

  • How to use Google Documents, Google Slides, Google Sheets

  • Technical computer basics: how to create a PDF, using a flash drive, etc.


DSPS Accessible Computer Lab (ACL)

If you need support getting into Canvas or using Canvas, visit the Accessible Computer Lab (ACL). You do not need to have a disability to use the ACL, however you must sign up for the free noncredit DSPS 4035 class. When you drop by, the DSPS instructor can sign you up.


Free or Low-Cost Internet Resources:

  • Charter and Spectrum Two Months of Free Internet: Available to low-income households. WiFi hotspots will also be open for the public. Please call for more information: Charter and Spectrum: 1-844-488-8395

  • Sonic Three Free Months of Internet and Telephone Service: During the COVID-19 outbreak, Sonic is offering three months of free internet access and unlimited nationwide home telephone service to households with K-12, college students, or senior citizens 60 or older. Please visit their website for more information and details.

  • California Connects: Affordable Broadband Mobile Internet: California Connects is an affordable broadband mobile internet program for the California Community Colleges. For $19.99 per month*, California community college students, faculty and staff can connect up to 10 devices to the California Connects mobile hotpot anytime and anywhere in the United States to study, work, create and stay connected. Service can be canceled and reactivated anytime without penalty. (*Please note: initial one-time device cost is not included in the monthly service cost). Please note this is not a CCSF resource.


Free Microsoft Office for CCSF Students

CCSF is providing Microsoft Office to every student free of charge. This means the latest version of Microsoft’s Office productivity suite, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, OneNote, Publisher, and Access. In addition there’s 1 (One) TB of online storage with Microsoft’s OneDrive. Microsoft’s Office suite can be used with Windows, Apple Macintosh, and Linux PCs. Or the Office apps can be downloaded and installed on Windows computers, Windows Phone, Apple Macintosh, iPhone, iPad, or Android. Please visit link for how to download.


Adobe Creative Cloud for Students

This is cloud-based service fosters that student creativity, enabling them to deliver projects and assignments that further reinforce their voice and message. For $39.99, students can have access for six months to renowned Adobe apps such as Photoshop, Illustrator, Spark, Rush and many more. Please note this is not a CCSF resource.
