Academic Counseling
Academic Counseling/Academic Planning FAQs
Q: What can an academic counselor help me with?
A: Any academic counselor can provide and assist students with personal, academic, and career development. They are able to guide students in the development of their education plan, lead students to essential support services, and assist students with personal concerns and development of good study skills.
Q: How do I set up an academic counseling appointment while the campus is closed?
A: During the campus closure, students are still able to set up an appointment to meet with an academic counselor. Instead of face-to-face meetings, students and academic counselors will meet either via Zoom, phone, or email meetings.
To set up an appointment, please either call or email one of the academic counseling offices below. You will be asked for your CCSF student ID number, as well as a time/date that you would like to have the appointment.
Q: How do I decide which academic counselor to reach out to?
A: While any academic counselors can help provide assistance with education plans, support services, or personal concerns, some counseling offices may be able to provide more specific support. For example the Career Center can assist with career exploration, career coaching/mentoring, and career related-support; while counselors in Disabled Students Programs and Services (DSPS) can provide disability accommodations and resources.
Students may also choose academic counselors based on other preferences such as the option to talk to someone who speaks another language (i.e. Spanish, Tagalog, Chinese, etc). While there are bilingual academic counselors through the Multicultural Retention Service Programs (i.e. TULAY, Latino Services Network, etc.) there are also a variety of academic counselors within the other centers as well.
