Remote Learning

Fall 2022 - present
We are back in full "normal" operation for the fitness center, therefore there will not be a remote option. All sessions MUST BE COMPLETED in the Fitness Center Well 201.
Note that there will be a very modest amount of written/reading assignments in the course's Canvas.

Spring 2022:
For those students wishing to only participate remotely -even though we will officially be in-person, -you will still have the option to participate remotely if you choose to do so. Remote participation will be in the course's Canvas. That information will be available beginning the first day of the semester (January 18)

Finishing up in this (remote) format for Fall 2021.

UPDATE 9/30/21:Looks like beginning Oct 1, CCSF is rolling out a process for vaccination verification (or exemption).

Unfortunately, I still do not believe that we will be getting access to the FC (or other PE courses) until Spring semester. This process seems to be geared at preparation for future enrollment.

I wish there was more that we could do. We worked very hard as a department to design, gain approval and implement plans to return to campus. The facilities and faculty were ready to go the first day of the semester but the last second City and County of San Francisco's mandatory vaccination requirement threw a wrench into our return.

I will keep you posted if anything new develops. In the mean time, when given the opportunity to provide proof of vaccination or exemption do it as soon as you can so that you are ready to go once the college opens up.

UPDATE 9/26/21:Still no official word yet on when we will open.

Unofficially, our gut feeling is that the administration is going to wait until Spring to open up where they will be able to administer a vaccination verification process prior to students enrolling in, in-person classes... Again, this is the feeling that we are getting but we have not heard anything officially on this.

UPDATE 8/22/21:Access has been finally signed off on (quite a complicated process) BUT we are now waiting for CCSF to implement a vaccination verification process as required by the City and County of SF and SFDPH.  So still not open yet... More Info to follow.Keep logging your sessions.

UPDATE 8/11/21:Good news! I just wanted to give you an update regarding access to the Fitness Center (Well 201).

Quite a bit of progress was made today in getting the room approved and ready for use. I suspect we will have access to the Fitness Center with in a few weeks. More info will follow.

Once we are open you will NOT be required to come in if you do not feel comfortable working out indoors. You will still be able to log and get credit for sessions as I have previously stated and as listed within Canvas and at www.CCSFFitnessCenter.com so no worries. You will have maximum flexibility in getting full credit for the course!

The reason things are moving a bit slowly is that the college is taking a conservative approach to opening things up. We will have certain areas and machines blocked off as well as a rigorous cleaning schedule.

The Fitness Center also has great ventilation.

Again, more info to follow.

In the mean time, beginning August 14, start logging your sessions and or log into Canvas to get the ball rolling.

ANNOUNCEMENT 8/10/21:PE 200 will initially continue to be taught remotely via Canvas beginning August 14, 2021 with the plan that Fitness Center in-person use will become optionally available sometime during Fall 2021.  Details are still being finalized.  On a positive note, in previous semesters we were told from the beginning that we would be remote BUT for Fall 2021, that is not the case so I suspect that the fitness center (Well 201) will eventually be open for optional use for those that want it. More to follow.

Since PE 200, in normal circumstances, allowed students to obtain credits while exercising in the fitness center. Students will now be able to continue to earn credits while working out on their own and completing simple assigned tasks within the course’s Canvas.  I believe that the information that will be presented to you in the course's Canvas will be very beneficial.

As an addendum to the current class syllabus, here is what we will do:

1)      A minimum of 35 workout sessions and/or assigned discussion posts.  Any combination needs to total 35 or more therefore you will have plenty of opportunities to tally 35 or more.

2)      Workouts can be manually logged individually here: https://tinyurl.com/yxc3bdav

Alternatively, if you are using a fitness app like 24Go, Strava, etc. you can email me your final total exercise log as well.

3)      Lectures, modules and discussions will be in the course’s Canvas shell, listed under your MyCCSF account.

4)      Each Monday, a new module will be released that will contain lecture materials on exercising, setting up a plan, tips on diet and discussion posts opportunities that will count towards your 35 session tally.

5)      For those who do not have any workout plan in mind or need guidance to exercise without a gym, there are various workout ideas within the course’s Canvas.
