In this lesson, we will create a zoo habitat using an online drawing tool, focusing on the idea of limited "square footage" to ensure all animals' needs are met within the area they live.
Students will use the grid painter interactive tool to design zoo habitats on a digital grid. In the activity, students will click individual squares on the grid to create rectangular enclosures for animals. As they build each enclosure, the tool automatically calculates the area in square units, which allows students to check whether their enclosure meets the minimum requirement for each scenario. Students will design three different animal enclosures and ensure each meets the area requirement.
