In this lesson, we will create a digital grid on our Chromebooks using an online tool to show that the area of a rectangle stays the same whether you count individual unit squares or multiply the side lengths.
Students will use the math learning center number piences digital manipulative tool to build rectangles with specific side lengths. After constructing the rectangle, students will count the total unit squares to determine the area and then write the correct multiplication equation (length x width).
