What is Art?
A mirror, or rather
A hammer – according to Bertolt Brecht.
“Art is not a mirror to reflect reality, but a hammer with which to shape it.”
All respect Mr. Brecht, but I think this is an AND statement.
Art is a mirror to reflect reality, AND a hammer with which to shape it.
A mirror and a hammer.
Also, an outlet.
A community.
Something that captures a moment’s feeling, being, experience.
A vessel for talent, inspiration, genius, insight.
A story.
What is an Artist?
An observer.
A questioner.
A fighter.
One whose “noble duty…is to add to society, to improve society in a direct or indirect way.” – Samuel Adoquei.
Art is a story,
And the Artist, the storyteller.
