Biography

Tavan Janvilisri is a Professor of Molecular Biology at the Department of Biochemistry, Faculty of Science, Mahidol University. He received a bachelor's degree in Biochemistry and Genetics in 2000, followed by a master's degree in Oncology in 2001, both from the University of Nottingham. Building on this foundation, he pursued a doctorate in Pharmacology, successfully completing his studies at the University of Cambridge in 2004. His time at Cambridge was notable not only for his academic pursuits but also for his role as an assistant examiner for the Oxford, Cambridge, and RSA Examination Board. He joined the faculty at Mahidol in 2005 and received a postdoctoral fellowship to conduct research at College of Veterinary Medicine, Cornell University from 2007-2010. He was appointed associate professor in 2011 and gained his professorship in 2017. He has been elected as an executive committee of The Science Society of Thailand under the Patronage of His Majesty the King in 2022.


He was a recipient of awards including the National Outstanding Youth in creative thinking and innovation awarded by the Crown Prince of Thailand, the Royal Thai Government Scholarship, the Charles Slater Fund from Sidney Sussex College, Cambridge, the Outstanding Dissertation Award from the National Research Council of Thailand (NRCT), Cerebos Award, the Young Biochemist and Molecular Biologist Award, TRF-OHEC-Scopus Researcher Award, and Newton Fund Research Pitch Award.
