Tavan Janvilisri is a Professor of Molecular Biology at the Department of Microbiology, Faculty of Science, Chulalongkorn University. He earned a bachelor's degree in Biochemistry and Genetics in 2000, followed by a master's degree in Oncology in 2001, both from the University of Nottingham. He then completed a doctorate in Pharmacology at the University of Cambridge in 2004. During his time at Cambridge, he also served as an assistant examiner for the Oxford, Cambridge, and RSA Examination Board.
In 2005, he joined the faculty at Mahidol University and later received a postdoctoral fellowship to conduct research at Cornell University's College of Veterinary Medicine from 2007 to 2010. He was promoted to associate professor in 2011 and became a full professor in 2017. In 2022, he was further recognized as a distinguished professor in molecular biology. That same year, he was elected to the executive committee of The Science Society of Thailand under the Patronage of His Majesty the King. In 2024, he joined the Department of Microbiology at Chulalongkorn University.
He was a recipient of awards including the National Outstanding Youth in creative thinking and innovation awarded by the Crown Prince of Thailand, the Royal Thai Government Scholarship, the Charles Slater Fund from Sidney Sussex College, Cambridge, the Outstanding Dissertation Award from the National Research Council of Thailand (NRCT), Cerebos Award, the Young Biochemist and Molecular Biologist Award, TRF-OHEC-Scopus Researcher Award, and Newton Fund Research Pitch Award.
