Trimester 1-Unit 0 - 

What are we learning?

We will be focusing on  the following standards 

Demonstrate the rules and procedures in both the gymnasium and locker room. (19.C.3a,21.A.3a,b,c)

Demonstrate and explain the importance of teamwork, communication, decision making both in PE class and in life situations. (21.A.3b,c,21.B.3a)


What to expect in this unit?

You will be receiving your homebase spot, gym locker and lock and your Physical Education uniform.

You will be reviewing Phys.Ed expectations, routines, materials needed, grading and units!

You will also be focusing on sportsmanship and team building skills through a variety of activities.



Why I like this unit? Why does this unit matter?

This unit will set us up for success throughout the year so we can do a variety of fun activities safely and collaboratively.


Trimester 1-Unit 1

What are we learning?

We will be focusing on fitnessgram testing and the 5 components of fitness. We will be assessing current fitness levels by performing the following- Pacer, Push-ups, Curl-ups, sit and reach, and the mile run. 

We will be focusing on the skills, rules, and game of kickball.

We will be focusing on the following standards:

Participate daily in moderate to vigorous physical activity while performing multiple movement patterns consistently with additional combination movement patterns. (19.A.3b)

Apply basic offensive, defensive, and cooperative strategies in selected activities, games, and sports. (19.C.3b)

Demonstrate the rules and procedures outside, in the gymnasium and locker room. (19.C.3a,21.A.3a,b,c)

Demonstrate and explain the importance of teamwork, communication, decision making both in PE class and in life situations. (21.A.3b,c,21.B.3a)


What to expect in this unit?

You will be performing a variety of fitnessgram assessments

You will be setting a fitnessgram related goal by selecting a test to improve on

You will be practicing the basic skills of kickball and competing in games against other teams.

You will be focusing on sportsmanship and team building skills through a variety of activities.



Why I like this unit? Why does this unit matter?

This unit will set students up to be able to play a game of kickball on their own and be able to teach others the rules and etiquette of the game. 

This unit provide students with knowledge centered around fitnessgram and the 5 components of fitness and will help them find specific ways they can improve their fitness levels. 


Trimester 1-Unit 2- Basketball

What are we learning?

We will be focusing on basketball and general fitness. We will be learning how to perform basketball related skills such as dribbling, passing, shooting, and how to play a competitive game.

We will be focusing on the skills, rules, and game of basketball while also working to improve various components of fitness with fun activities. 

We will be focusing on the following standards:

You will be performing a 1 pre-assessment, 1 formative, and 1 summative assessment (all is content based).

You will be participating in activities that improve various components of fitness. 

You will be practicing the basic skills of basketball and competing in drills and games.

You will be focusing on sportsmanship and team building skills through a variety of activities.


Why I like this unit? Why does this unit matter?

This unit will set students up to be able to play a game of basketball on their own or with others, and enable them to teach others the rules of the game. 

Trimester 1-Unit 2- Health and Wellness

What are we learning?

We will be focusing on understanding the 10 dimensions of wellness

We will be focusing on why we need to balance all 10 dimensions of wellness.

We will be focusing on understanding how to balance each dimension of wellness.

We will be focusing on the following standards:

STATE GOAL 22: I can understand principles of health promotion and the prevention and treatment of illness and injury

STATE GOAL 23. I can understand human body systems and factors that influence growth and development.

STATE GOAL 24: I can promote and enhance health and well-being through the use of effective communication and decision-making skills


What to expect in this unit?

You will be performing a 1 pre-assessment, 1 formative, and 2 summative assessments (all is content based).


You will be participating in activities that improve our understanding of Physical, Mental/ Emotional, Social, Environmental  Intellectual, and Spiritual Wellness


You will be focusing on how can balancing the 10 dimensions of wellness can impact your overall Wellness.


Why I like this unit? Why does this unit matter?

This unit will set students up for success by guiding the students  to understand the importance of maintaining the dimensions of wellness, how  balancing the 10 dimensions of wellness can impact their  overall wellness and enabling them to advocate and teach others how to maintain the dimensions of wellness

Trimester 2 Unit 1: Badminton and Fall Fitness

We will be focusing on the following standards:

Apply basic offensive, defensive, and cooperative strategies in selected activities, games, and sports. (19.C.3b)

You will be completing 2 pre tests: 1 badminton and 1 fitness room

You will be performing 2 midpoint check ins: 1 badminton and 1 fitness room

You will be performing 2 summatives: 1 badminton and 1 fitness room

Why I like this unit? Why does this unit matter?

Fall Fitness (Fitness Room): This unit will set students up for success by guiding the students  to understand the importance exercise, how to exercise safely, and other fitness related concepts. This unit is important because we want students to be able to learn how to build muscle by performing  light weight repetitions while using correct technique. Additionally it is important for students to learn how to use the equipment correctly so that if they were to ever find themselves in a gym, they would know what to do!


Badminton: This unit is importance as badminton is a popular sport played around the world. It introduces important concepts such as teamwork, strategy, and communication. The goal is for students to be able to play competitively with their peers and also be able to teach one another skill related concepts associated with badminton and the rules of the game. 

Trimester 2 Unit 2: Eclipse Ball and Winter Workout

We will be focusing on the following standards:

Apply basic offensive, defensive, and cooperative strategies in selected activities, games, and sports. (19.C.3b)

You will be completing 1 pre test: 1 Eclipse ball

You will be performing 2 midpoint check ins: 1 Eclipse Ball and 1 fitness room

You will be performing 2 summatives: 1 Eclipse ball and 1 fitness room Winter Workout Fitness Workout Script and Video

Why I like this unit? Why does this unit matter?

Winter Workout (Fitness Room): This unit will set students up for success by guiding the students  to understand the importance of exercise, how to exercise safely, and other fitness related concepts. This unit is important because we want students to be able to learn how to build muscle by performing  light weight repetitions while using correct technique. Additionally it is important for students to learn how to use the equipment correctly so that if they were to ever find themselves in a gym, they would know what to do! Students will be collaborating with a group to create a Fitness Workout. Students will be applying the knowledge they learned during the Fall Fitness unit and creating a Script and Video demonstrating a Warm Up, Workout and Cool Down along with Safety Considerations in a Fitness Center.


Eclipse Ball: This unit is important as eclipse ball is a great  lead up sport played with similar concepts to volleyball which is our next unit. It introduces important concepts such as teamwork, strategy, and communication. The goal is for students to be able to play competitively with their peers and also be able to teach one another skill related concepts associated with eclipse ball and the rules of the game.

Trimester 2 Unit 2: Health and Wellness: Safety of Self and Others

We will be focusing on the following standards:

STATE GOAL 24: I can promote and enhance health and well-being through the use of effective communication and decision-making skills


What to expect in this unit?

You will be performing a 1 pre-assessment, 1 formative, and 2 summative assessments (all are content based).


You will be participating in activities that improve our understanding regarding  the risks associated with  tobacco and vaping use, using reliable resources with factual information in order to make healthy  informed decisions and using healthy coping strategies to handle peer pressure in a variety of situations.


You will be focusing on how identifying  the risks associated with  tobacco and vaping  use, using reliable resources with factual information in order to make healthy  informed decisions and using healthy coping strategies to handle peer pressure in a variety of situations can impact our overall wellness


Why I like this unit? Why does this unit matter?

This unit will set students up for success by guiding the students  to understand the importance of identifying the risks associated with tobacco and vaping use and implementing a healthy coping strategy that can reduce short and long term health concerns.  They will also be able to identify how  maintaining their own health  can  impact their overall wellness and enabling them to advocate and teach others how to maintain their overall wellness through a anti-tobacco  advocacy project of their choice,


Trimester 3: Unit 2: Health and Wellness: Healthy Lifestyle Choices

We will be focusing on the following standards:

STATE GOAL 22: I can understand principles of health promotion and the prevention and treatment of illness and injury

STATE GOAL 23. I can understand human body systems and factors that influence growth and development.

STATE GOAL 24: I can promote and enhance health and well-being through the use of effective communication and decision-making skills

You will be performing a 1 pre-assessment, 1 formative, and 2 summative assessments (all are content based).


You will be participating in activities that improve your understanding regarding  our Body Systems using reliable resources with factual information in order to make healthy  informed decisions.



Why I like this unit? Why does this unit matter?

This unit will set students up for success by guiding the students  to understand the importance of identifying the risk factors within our control and not within our control associated with Body Systems that can reduce short and long term health concerns.  They will also be able to identify how  maintaining their own health  can  impact their overall wellness and enabling them to advocate and teach others how to maintain their overall wellness through a Body Systems advocacy project of their choice,





Trimester 2 Unit 3: Volleyball

We will be focusing on the following standards:

Apply basic offensive, defensive, and cooperative strategies in selected activities, games, and sports. (19.C.3b)

Demonstrate the rules and procedures outside, in the gymnasium and locker room. (19.C.3a,21.A.3a,b,c)

What to expect in this unit?

You will be completing 1 pre test

You will be performing 1 midpoint check in: Over the rules of volleyball or success criteria for the serve, set, or bump (pass).

You will be performing 1 summative: Volleyball

This unit is important as volleyball is a sport all students seem to enjoy as it introduces important concepts such as teamwork, strategy, and communication. The goal is for students to be able to play competitively with their peers and also be able to teach one another skill related concepts associated with volleyball and the rules of the game.

Trimester 3 Unit 1: Fit For life

We will be focusing on the following standards:

Apply basic offensive, defensive, and cooperative strategies in selected activities, games, and sports. (19.C.3b)

Demonstrate the rules and procedures outside, in the gymnasium and locker room. (19.C.3a,21.A.3a,b,c)

Why I like this unit? Why does this unit matter?

This unit is important as all of these activities are types that students can perform throughout their life. We want to encourage students to find activities they enjoy and allow them to be competitive, creative, and showcase their skills outside of the primary sports throughout their life. 

Trimester 3 Unit 2: Soccer

Why I like this unit? Why does this unit matter?

This unit is important as soccer is a world wide sport that is super fun and easy to play. The purpose of this unit is to help students develop their soccer related skills, improve their hand eye coordination, and cardiovascular endurance. Students learn teamwork, communication, and cooperation strategies to become more effective players when on a team. I also love this unit because I enjoy watching the students compete and have fun while engaging in physical activity.
