Waverly Yowell Elementary School has a comprehensive School Counseling program that is aligned with Virginia and National School Counseling standards.

1. Our School Counselor, Mrs. Cummings, teaches School Counseling lessons as part of the specials rotation. These lessons incorporate the ASCA Mindsets and Behaviors for Student Success as well as the Virginia School Counseling standards.

2. This year’s School Counseling theme is BE the light! Using a lighthouse theme students will understand that we each have the opportunity to use our inner strengths to help others. This theme will incorporate teaching about social and emotional health school wide, strengthening what students learned last year about strengths, "not yets" and perseverance.

3. WYES is a UVA School Counseling internship site. Mrs. Keys will be supervising Ms. Katie Mason during the 2021-22 school year.

4. Our School Counselor, Mrs. Keys, provides individual and group counseling to students at MPS and WYES. These services include close consultation with parents, teachers, administrators and community agencies to support the overall success of the child.
