Course offerings for Group 1

Group 1 is recommended for students entering 1st through 3rd grade for the 2021-2022 school year with some or no prior experience with course content.

Topics and daily routines for courses in Group 1 are geared toward our youngest students. Both AM and PM Group 1 courses will challenge students through engaging and exciting exploration and activities through unique topics and themes from week to week. This will allow students to attend either half-day or full-day programs with exciting experiences and success within the each content area of the course. All courses for Group 1 will be unique from week to week and offer a hands-on, lab like experience broken up by mini experiments and activities that cater to the unique needs of students within this group.

Carnival Palooza

During the Carnival Palooza week, students will be challenged to create physics defying contraptions with a carnival theme! We will learn how to use hand tools as we design and fabricate our creations throughout the week. In addition to our big carnival creations, students will embark upon mini projects that revolve around the world of gamification and design!

This course is available during Weeks 1 & 4

Code to the Rescue

During the Code to the Rescue week, students will be challenged to learn how code makes our modern world work! We will learn how to use block-based programming languages as we create apps, robots, or electronic contraptions that complete real-world challenges. In addition to our big coding projects, students will complete mini activities that further show how we can use code to make our lives easier and better!

This course is available during Weeks 1 & 4

Mad Science

During the Mad Science week, students will be challenged to create concoctions through experiments and design that defy what we know! We will learn how materials and substances can be combined as we create solutions, gases, and oozing matter throughout the week. In addition to our big science experiments, students will complete mini experiments in the world of chemistry and science!

This course is available during Weeks 2 & 5

Space Exploration

During the Space Exploration Week, students will be challenged to create inventions that can take off and shoot for the stars! We will learn how to use hand tools as we create prototypes that soar, glide, and blast off throughout the week. In addition to our big blast-off experiments, students will embark upon mini missions within the worlds of aviation, aerodynamics, and rocketry!

This course is available during Weeks 2 & 5

Superhero Robots

During the Superhero Robots week, students will be challenged to fabricate and program robots with superhero like abilities! Through real-world challenges, students will learn about how robots are used in our world to help us in our day to day life. In addition to our big robotic challenges, students will embark upon mini challenges that dive deeper into just what simple machines and and code can do!

This course is available during Weeks 3 & 6

Things that go

During the Things That Go week, students will be challenged to create inventions that really move! We will learn how to use hand tools as we design and fabricate our vehicles throughout the week. In addition to learning how things can be propelled, students will complete mini challenges in the worlds of innovation, invention, and design!
