Week 9

About 3D design

I designed another part for holding the hydrogel on Solid works. It is used for holding hydrogel in front of the high speed camera during PIV. There is an origional design with an circulare shape in the middle. What I did is I delete everything but the skech, modify the sketch into a square shape in the middle and made it into a 3D object. The process went pretty smoothly without really anything unexpected happening.

About the hydrogel project

The hydrogel project that Alex is working on requires him to make three new hydrogels with different concentrations of water. Those hydrogel needs to fit with the holder that I designed, which means it needs to be 1.5*0.5cm. I build the box for that and Alex used the box to make his hydrogel.

I first tried to make the box right next to each other, but the problem with that is it's really hard to glue the dividing boards completely to the side without putting the glue onto where the hydrogel will be. I turned out doing all three boxes separately.

I also got way better at putting a really thin layer of glue on the side of the board.

The origional idea of putting all three together.
