We have so many great things planned this summer that we are excited to share! Here’s an overview of 2025! You can check out detailed schedules on your site specific page. Generally, MSCR Camp Compass tries to group campers by age when possible. Most groups are mixed age. At Camp Compass groups are divided into Red, Orange, Green and Blue groups with Red being our youngest students (usually 1st and 2nd graders) and Blue group being our oldest campers (usually 5th and 6th graders).
MSCR Camp Compass runs for 8 weeks from Monday, June 23 - Friday, August 15, 2025.
Program hours are Monday - Friday, 7:45 am - 5:30 pm There will be no MSCR Camp Compass on Friday, July 4, 2025.
EACH DAY we will provide time for reading, math and science activities. We will incorporate large group games, free play and recess. It is our goal to provide a safe, fun, enriching environment for each participant.
FIELD TRIPS: You will be provided with a field trip
schedule. We’ll take several field trips throughout the week, some group field trips and a handful of all program all day field trips. We’re going to have a blast creating great summer memories! We have some fun special events and walking field trips planned. We’re looking forward to outdoor experiences with MSCR Outdoor programs. Our BLUE GROUP will receive a paddling lesson at Olin Park and all campers will get to experience a pontoon boat ride!
GIRLS INC.: Through a partnership with Girls Inc. of Greater Madison, we are excited to offer Girls Inc. programming at each site for select age groups. Girls Inc. is open to any camper who identifies as female and non-binary youth and will explore research-based curriculum that inspires kids to become strong, smart and bold! This summer Girls Inc. will be focusing on STEM activities.
MADISON READING PROJECT: What’s better than a shady spot and a good book on a summer day? We’re thrilled to be visited by the Madison Reading Project Book Bus every other week. All campers will get to choose a book of their very own to keep!
MSCR SWIM LESSONS AT WEST (or LAFOLLETTE) HIGH SCHOOL: We’re so excited to get to take MSCR swimming lessons one morning per week in the newly renovated pool at West High School. Henderson campers will walk to LaFollette HS for swim lessons.
ROOTED YOUTH GARDEN: Campers in RED and ORANGE groups will visit the Madison School Youth Farm on Madison’s east side and Troy Gardens on Madison's northside one time each this summer. They will learn and explore the gardens, do outdoor cooking projects and much more!
UW EXTENSION FUN WITH FOODS: All Campers will participate in an experiential cooking and nutrition lesson once a week. Kids will prepare and sample healthy recipes!
WISCONSIN BIKE FED: The Wisconsin Bike Fed's "Bike Driver's Ed" program focuses on safety to build kids' confidence and skills on bicycles so they can learn to be knowledgeable and independent cyclists. Bikes are available for kids to use during camp time, but kids are encouraged and welcome to bring their bike from home. Helmets are required. Those who don't have a helmet will be provided one to keep at the end of week! This experience will be focused on kids in our GREEN and BLUE GROUPS during one week of camp.
DANE COUNTY TRASH LAB: Our newest CC visitor! Created by the Dane County Department of Waste & Renewables in collaboration with Madison Children’s Museum, the Trash Lab is a mobile exhibit designed to educate and motivate us to create less trash and rethink our relationship with waste. The DC Trash Lab will visit each CC site once.
Please plan for your child to arrive by 9am each day. This helps make the morning transition go smoothly and ensures that they are in attendance for any off-site trips or special events. If you need to drop off late or pick up early, please notify your Site Director so that arrangements can be made.
Breakfast and lunch are provided by MMSD Food & Nutrition. Menus will be available to you. The afternoon snack is provided by MSCR.
If your child will be absent from the program, please be sure to let us know. Your child should be dressed for both indoor and outdoor play. They should also bring a swimsuit and towel, sunscreen and a refillable water bottle to camp each day.
MSCR Camp Compass will:
Provide safe, fun, quality programming
Ensure effective and timely communication with families
Actively engage children and families in programming that is age appropriate, skill building, and fun

Hello! My name is Megan. During the school year, I am the Director of Afterschool Programming at Henderson Elementary and this summer, I am a Field Supervisor, helping to support all five of our Camp Compass sites. I can't wait to go swimming, go on field trips, and enjoy all of the special visitors we have coming to camp this year! When I'm not at camp, I love to spend time with my two-year-old daughter, Annaliese, and my husband, Jacob.
Hi! I started working in out of school time programs while still a High School student and has been working to support youth and families for the past 25 years. In my current role as an Elementary Specialist for Madison School & Community Recreation, a department of the Madison Metro School District, I help to support 15 elementary after school programs, Camp Compass and MSCR Girls Inc. I am the mom to three (amazing and firey) daughters and enjoy traveling with my husband, walking our two rescue dogs and long weekends "up north." Two summers ago, I was honored to receive a “Legends of Out-of-School-Time” award from Madison Out of School Time (MOST).
Hello! My name is Alejandra Méndez, and I am excited to be part of the MSCR community as a Bilingual Program Assistant. I am thrilled to work alongside you and your children to support and enrich the learning environment where everyone feels valued and empowered. I love helping everyone as much as I can, and I have experience as a mathematics teacher, which makes me very familiar with learning centers and school environments. Additionally, over the past few years, I have been working in the human resources field, which has developed in me an insatiable capacity to serve people and has provided me with knowledge that I hope will be very helpful in the development of our programs.
