Alex Shell

Senior - Data Analytics

Having risen to the rank of Grand Master in League of Legends, Alex brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to the team. He said he has enjoyed the people involved the esports program here at MACU and that they are nice and very welcoming.

Alex is a Data Analytics major, which is what brought him to MACU. "MACU is the only school in the state with that major!" He has enjoyed being a part of team practices and finding ways to mess around in the game as friends. When asked what drives him to improve, he said, "Wanting to be the best at what I do."

Alex joined the team in the Fall of 2020 and has continued to work with his teammates and provide volunteer coaching to keep the team improving.

What brought you to MACU?

What brought me to MACU is that it is a smaller school that really cares about its students—and that cared not only about their lives but their spiritual lives as well.

What has been one of your most memorable experiences on the varsity League of Legends team?

One of the most memorable moments of being on the team is waiting for a match to load or the rest of the team to arrive and getting to watch Coach's "sound checks."

What drives you to get better?

The drive to be better for me comes from getting to play with people who have more experience than me and are able to teach me by showing and not telling.

What is something you have enjoyed about being in MACU Esports?

The most enjoyable thing for me is the chance to do something I love and have a passion for with people who have the same drive. It is just a really cool experience to get the chance to hang out with like-minded people and do something we all love.

What brought you to MACU?

The community! I knew that if I had troubles I would be able to directly talk to my professor without seeming like another one of nameless students. I know that through MACU, I am going to be able to get through college and have an easy and helpful time during my years.

What has been one of your most memorable experiences on the varsity League of Legends team?

The most memorable time on the team would just be the time in practice. I feel that I along with the others are able to improve our skills and have a laugh each week. There is not one practice that we do not end up smiling.

What drives you to get better?

The thought of being able to do better for my team. When it comes to the team, I want to be the best I can for them, and if that means being a good Mid-Lane then so be it. I know they are doing the same for me!

What is something you have enjoyed about being in MACU Esports?

I will say that the thing about esports I enjoy the most is that I am able to do something that is relaxing to me. I may not be a Grandmaster (yet), but dang it I am rocking a Bronze!

What brought you to MACU?

I visited and fell in love with the small-family vibe of the college. Also, (instructor) Pam Barton.

What has been one of your most memorable experiences on the varsity League of Legends team?

One of the most memorable experiences I have had are the days when we come in and just have a fun game instead of a serious game. We all really enjoy this, and it lets us test things to see if they might work in the future.

What drives you to get better?

My teammates drive me to get better. I want to be able to keep up with them, and I love the competition.

What is something you have enjoyed about being in MACU Esports?

I have enjoyed being able to make friends outside of the team and partner up with other esports varsity teams for campus events.
