Founders Day was absolutely delightful! I hope you were able to join us. The performances took a lot of preparation and practice- and it is always so worthwhile to see the students smiling ear-to-ear, giving their best efforts on stage for our community.
The month of December is a festive one, leading up to our holiday break. The art cart is loaded up with a variety of supplies to help students achieve their seasonal crafting goals. The students are always surprising me with their exciting ideas about what they want to make and how they want to achieve it. Some techniques being taught currently are spiraling with paper (like quilling), stamping with paints, hand-sewing, and designing and cutting a pattern out of felt. If your student has artwork uploaded to Artsonia, consider the Artsonia gift shop for your holiday shopping. 20% of your purchase goes back to the arts at MACS. All students in grades 3-5 and up should be enrolled at this point. Talk to your student about the work they are uploading to the site.
Looking to January: The Saving My Alachua Calendar contest is fast upon us. I am also currently seeking the elementary artist to represent our school in the Friends of Elementary Art show at the Gainesville Fine Arts Association gallery.

We had a really fun and educational STEAM Night in September! As the coordinator for the event, I want to share my appreciation for MACS families who were involved in any way, whether it was helping to set up, dedicating yourself to a STEAM booth, helping to clean up, or simply making time to bring your family to this fun event. It wouldn't have been possible without you!
The month of October brings us to our second Art block, with a Music block set to start in November. In Art class, grades 3-5 are learning how to photo-document their WOW work (Wonderful Original Work) and post the work on our online gallery at artsonia.com. Students will be responsible for giving their work a title and for writing an Artist Statement that informs viewers of the process, inspiration, or other aspect of the work. Families new to MACS this year will soon be getting an invitation to activate your child's Artsonia account. Stay tuned- and in the meantime, check out our school's Artsonia gallery.
In November we look forward to our Founders Day/ Veterans Day event, when our whole school joins together for a delicious Thanksgiving-style meal! As is tradition, each grade will prepare and perform a song that either recognizes US veterans, Thanksgiving gratitude, or appreciation of our school. We started our songs last music block and will be practicing on stage in November, leading up to the event that takes place right before Thanksgiving break. Check the Music links for I hope you can attend this exciting performance and meal!

One of October's highlights has been creating mandalas with first grade, using letters from the alphabet!
August/September2025: Welcome back! We are Arts on a cart this year as we set our sights on constructing MACS' new middle school! I will be visiting classrooms with a cart full of arts materials and resources. My motto for the year is "roll with it"!
The FIRST Art Block begins August 11th and ends September 5th.
The FIRST Music Block Begins on September 5th and ends October 3rd.
Students' artsonia.com accounts will be updated after the end of the 2nd art block, but you are free to upload art yourself any time. See How to Upload Art to Artsonia. In the meantime, invite friends and family to become a "fan" of the special artist(s) in your family. Leave encouraging comments about their work on their gallery page (Here are some examples), and check out the Artsonia gift shop where you can order quality keepsakes of your artist's work year round! 20% of purchases benefit our school arts program! We just ordered a special photography light box thanks to proceeds from the gift shop purchase! Reach out to teasleys@macschool.us with any questions.
