A staff person will be positioned near the north building patio (1st-8th students) and kindergarten entrance (kindergarten students) from 8:00 am until 8:30 am to assist students in exiting safely from vehicles. Pre-Kindergarten students will be dropped off by a parent at the Pre-Kindergarten playground between 8:00 - 8:30 am. Pick-up times vary to allow for smooth passage in the parking lot.

Please be sure to pick up your child on time so the staff can conduct meetings and attend to other school business. Younger siblings or members of a carpool may be picked up during the oldest child’s pick-up window. Students staying more than ten minutes past their dismissal time will be sent to the After Care Program, and parents will be billed accordingly through FACTS. Students may not be dropped off prior to 8:00 am except under express permission from a teacher or staff member. Students in Pre-K through 4th grades, who are enrolled in an after school activity starting after 3:20 pm, must be supervised by a parent or attend After Care between regular dismissal and the start of the after school program. After Care fees will be in addition to any activity fees and will be billed through FACTS.
Classes begin promptly at 8:30 a.m. each day. Students are expected to be in the classroom by 8:20 a.m. Student arrivals after 8:30 will be designated as tardy and formally noted on the student record.
Mackintosh Academy will ONLY allow a student to leave campus with individuals authorized by the parent/guardian to transport the student. Pick-up authorization is set through FACTS during the annual re-enrollment process and may be updated by contacting the main office. Authorization may be provided via written (email) or verbal consent from the parent/guardian. This policy extends to relatives of the student. Parents must notify the school if the student will be picked up by a party unknown to the staff. When the party arrives at Mackintosh Academy, staff will require a picture ID.
Parents should notify the front office attendance (attendance@mackintoshacademy.com) through email or leave a message on the attendance line 303-794-6222 Ext 606 before 8:30 a.m. if their child will be absent for any part of the day. The front office will let all teachers know. Parents/Guardians are expected to provide information regarding the reason for the absence as the school is required by the State of Colorado to maintain a list of absences and explanations.
Mackintosh Academy encourages families to plan trips and family events during school-scheduled holidays. Our inquiry-based program involves hands-on, collaborative learning. Student absences impact not only the student’s academics, but those of his or her classmates. Parents are required to give a minimum of one week’s notice in writing or email for any discretionary absence to both the front office and classroom teacher(s).
Students are ultimately responsible for all content and assignments missed during absences. Teachers may, however, at their discretion, excuse certain assignments or extend the due dates for absences due to illness. Teachers will work with students and their parents to determine the appropriate make-up work or activities and due dates according to individual needs and circumstances.
We recognize that certain situations may require an extended absence. As our programming is contingent on student collaboration and student-driven inquiries, make-up materials will not have the depth, nuance, and richness of in-classroom learning experiences. Unit of Inquiry and specialty-based activities such as math or PE are highly dependent on classroom involvement. A student who is absent 20% of the time or more during any Unit of Inquiry block (U of I blocks are typically six weeks in length), Middle Years unit of study, or specialty class may be ineligible for receiving a grade in that class. A note will be made on the student report indicating the reason for the absence.
Continued or chronic absenteeism, extending to two or more Units of Inquiry, will necessitate a meeting with the Parent(s) and the Head of School to develop an appropriate plan of action that may involve outside tutoring, alternate assignments, and discussion of continued placement.
Late arrival: Parents are required to notify the attendance office (attendance@mackintoshacademy.com) through email or leave a message on the attendance line 303-794-6222 Ext 606 if a child will be arriving late. The Parent must come to the main office to sign in a child arriving late for school.
Early departure: Parents are required to notify the attendance office (attendance@mackintoshacademy.com) through email or leave a message on the attendance line 303-794-6222 Ext 606 if a child will be leaving early. Parents must come to the front office to sign the student out.
Mackintosh Academy typically, but not always, closes school in accordance with the closing of schools by the Littleton Public School District. The Head of School makes the final decision regarding the closing of the school. When the decision to close the school has been made, the Head of School or her/his designee will contact television stations 4 and 9 by 6:00 a.m. A community email will be sent to parents by 6:30 a.m. using the FACTS email system. Parents are encouraged to check their emails and watch the TV for school closing information. We recognize that families come from a wide area and snow amounts vary considerably. We ask parents to use their best discretion under adverse weather conditions. Parents are asked to notify the main office and the classroom teacher through email before 9:00 a.m. if their child will be absent.
After care will begin Thursday, September 1st. At this time we will not be offering before care due to historically low enrollment. If this represents a hardship to your family, please contact me the Head of School.
In addition to regular after care, Mackintosh will be offering several after school enrichment programs. Details on the fall program will be sent the first week of school. Enrichment programs will require separate enrollment procedures. Students in PreK - 4th grade who will be participating in programs starting later than 3:20 pm, will be required to attend after care until their program starts and will be billed standard after care rates.
Please see below for important details regarding the after care program.
Cost: $14/hour for the first child, $11/hour for second and subsequent siblings in the same family, attending at the same time. After care will be billed monthly through FACTS and is payable within 20 days.
Hours: 3:00 - 4:00 pm children under the age of five. 3:00 - 5:30 pm ages five and up.
Restrictions: There will be no after care the first three days of school. After care is not available on early dismissal days. No after care is provided on regularly scheduled holidays or PD days.

Drop Off and Pick Up: Parents must park their vehicle, pick up and sign out their child.
Prior to 4:00 pm - PreK playground (Kindergarten classroom in the case of inclement weather.)
After 4:00 pm Art Room (exterior door) or field.
Rules: All regular behavior expectations as outlined in the Student-Parent Handbook remain in place during extended hours. This includes playground and technology policies.
Activities: The extended care program is designed to offer a safe place for children to be on campus outside of regular school hours. Activities will typically include outdoor play, drawing, games and building with blocks or Legos. A quiet homework time will be provided to allow older students in after care to start on homework assignments.
Reservations: Parents needing after care for their child are asked to let the homeroom teacher and front office (frontoffice@mackintoshacademy.com) know no later than 9:00 am on the day of after care. At times we may be able to take a child on an emergency basis, but only if the program is not full at that time. Parents needing regular childcare may provide a schedule by week or by month rather than a daily email.
