Mackintosh Academy Littleton is committed to providing a quality service in a manner that ensures a safe and healthy workplace for our employees and students and minimizes our potential impact on the environment. We will operate in compliance with all relevant environmental legislation, and we will strive to use pollution prevention and environmental best practices in all we do.

Train, educate and inform our employees and students about environmental issues that may affect their work,
Reduce waste through re-use and recycling and by purchasing recycled, recyclable or refurbished products and materials, when these alternatives are available, economical and suitable,
Promote efficient use of materials and resources throughout our facility including water, electricity, raw materials and other resources, particularly those that are non-renewable,
Avoid unnecessary use of hazardous materials and products, seek substitutions when feasible, and take all reasonable steps to protect human health and the environment when such materials must be used, stored and disposed of,
Purchase and use environmentally responsible products
Where required by legislation or where significant health, safety or environmental hazards exist, develop and maintain appropriate emergency and spill response programs,
Communicate our environmental commitment to parents, students, and the public and encourage them to support it,
Strive to continually improve our environmental performance and minimize the social impact and damage of activities by periodically reviewing our environmental policy in light of our current and planned future activities.
As part of our continuing effort as a school to raise awareness around sustainability and environmentalism a "Green Committee" has been established which will be a driving force behind our school environmental initiatives. The Green Committee will consist of students, faculty, and parents who will strive to work toward a more sustainable campus environment through the following practices:
The Mackintosh community agrees to recycle paper products by placing unwanted paper in blue recycle bins located in each classroom and by each copy machine. Where possible, we are also committed to composting materials in the school compost bin.
The Mackintosh community participates in programs that support reusing, re-purposing, and recycling. Our participation in such programs may vary depending on availability.
Students and community members will be actively involved in gardening and food growing activities through on campus gardens, the greenhouse and other initiatives such as hydroponics.
All community members will support campus maintenance by:
Picking up trash and throwing it away in the proper container;
Bringing misplaced items to the lost and found bin;
Reporting maintenance issues to the Operations Director so that appropriate action may be taken; and,
Ensuring that students are individually held responsible for the cleaning up of their area following lunch and snack-time.
Community members will be encouraged to use materials in environmentally conscious ways. This includes, but is not limited to, using non-disposable plates and utensils during campus functions.
Families are asked to minimize lunch waste (use reusable silverware and containers in lunch boxes).
The Mackintosh Academy staff will use non-disposable plates and utensils during staff functions.
As often as possible, communications with parents will be handled through email to reduce paper waste.
