Standards Based Classroom

What is standards based classroom?

A Standards Based Classroom means I will be teaching the students using the standards as my foundation (curriculum) and supplementing the standards with various activities and materials. Our classroom will be focused on teaching and learning the Minnesota English/Language Arts Standards only.

Assessments

Summative Assessments:

These are the tests on the Standards and a test could represent one standard or be broken down into benchmarks (parts of the standard). These grades will make up the “Final Quarter Grade”.

If a student has not completed the Summative Assessment, a “M” will be represented in the grade book. These are daily quizzes, worksheets, activities, etc. that we will do to practice the standard. They will be corrected, however they will not affect the student’s “Final Quarter Grade”.

Formative Assessments:

ALL practices and activities MUST be completed correctly prior to the Summative Assessment over the standard. We practice the standard at a high rigor to ensure that students are meeting the needs of the standard. If a student has not completed a practice or activity correctly, it will show up as “M” in the grade book, and will not be allowed to complete the Summative Assessment. The student will have to schedule a separate time to complete the Summative Assessment once the practices are complete and correct.

In the grade book, Formative and Summative Assessments will be totaled out of 10 points.
