Parent/Student Information

We Are A Digital Classroom!

My classes are going completely digital and students will be using their Chromebooks every day.

We are going GREEN, saving on paper, and utilizing our Chromebooks to do various digital activities. In addition, the curriculum has been created and adapted by me to be completely digital. The ONLY non-digital components of my classroom are IRD and novel reading (I still value paper books).

Google Classroom

The students will be using Google Classroom to view activities, as well as complete and turn in practices, assessments, and anything else!

Please check Google Classroom daily. After the first week of school, parents will receive a weekly email (sent by Google Classroom) to view their child’s progress.

Parent Communication

In my classroom, I will be utilizing the app, “Remind” to communicate with parents/guardians. By using this app, you will receive daily/weekly feedback on your child and notifications from the classroom.

During Open House or the first week of school, you wil receive a code for my class. Connect to my Remind Classroom using a phone and you will receive a link to download the app to connect to the class. Or use the website! See https://www.remind.com for more information.

IRD

IRD is our reading initiative that we do in the classroom. The students set a goal of how many pages to read each quarter and try to meet that goal.

Every week in class we set aside time to IRD read (usually 20 minutes). During this time, students are expected to read. They are to read novels that are appropriate for their age level and reading ability. Novels with a lot of pictures are not acceptable (ex: Diary of a Wimpy Kid).

Students can select their own IRD novels to read. They have a choice of picking a book from my library (signing it out and returning it), the school’s library, or their own book from home.

Students will keep track of their own pages and can read both in and out of school.

When they finish a book, students are to complete a finished book form to answer questions and prove the book was successfully read and comprehended.
