Leadership

MAAHMG is led by co-founders Coventry Royster Cowens and Tina Burnside.

Coventry Royster Cowens is the museum’s interim operations coordinator. Ms. Cowens has worked as an assistant director of multicultural programs and services at a Twin Cities university. She also worked in the computer technology industry, academy and social services. Ms. Cowens has volunteered with Camp Friendship and the LTL International Leadership Institute and local African and African American history projects.

Tina Burnside is the museum's curator and development team lead. Ms. Burnside is a civil rights attorney and writer in Minneapolis. She has worked on several projects for the Minnesota Historical Society and the Hennepin History Museum related to African American history in Minnesota. Ms. Burnside is also an author and playwright.
