This is an integral study to my work, as it presents a thorough and methodical assessment of campsites that I hope to replicate in many ways. While its focus and hypotheses are different, the methods used are near-identical to those in our study. Also, my mentor is a co-author :).Â

Factors influencing informal trail conditions
This is a super interesting paper that uses mobile phone locational data to assess the use levels of informal trails in parks and protected areas. As far as I've been able to find, this is the first paper to incorporate this data into its methods and as such is incredibly relevant to my study, which also aims to use phone data to approximate use levels. My mentor and I have reached out to Ms. Spernbauer with questions, and her knowledge have been very helpful when designing our own study.
Modeling areal measures of campsite impacts
Modeling areal measures of campsite impacts
This is a paper that takes a statistical approach to modeling and assessing campsite impacts on the Appalachian Trail. Importantly, it uses LiDAR topographic scanning to evaluate terrain characteristics alongside field measurements. We hope to use the same methods in our own work, and this study serves as a detailed procedure for how to incorporate it. My mentor also co-authored this one too (sensing a theme?).
