Perinatal Depression: The Role of Maternal Adverse Childhood Experiences and Social Support
This paper discusses a high number of ACEs and having low social support are direct predictors of maternal perinatal depression. The paper also studies how these two predictors are independent and do not act upon each other. While the article researches how ACEs and a lack of social support can predict perinatal depression, I am interested in how this particular relationship plays out in Asian immigrant mothers and communities, where things like cultural stigma may affect where social support is offered or accepted.
Factors influencing the underutilization of mental health services among Asian American women with a history of depression and suicide

The study conducted qualitative interviews that found cultural stigma from families and communities to create a "taboo" environment where seeking help is viewed as weakness or a betrayal of family privacy.
