Entering Year Two of MARC ISR - September 1, 2026
After further investigation into my CHIS dataset, my mentor and I realized that the dataset doesn't cover every single variable in my research question with the most specificity. Our new goal is to find a new publicly available dataset that punches every variable in my research question (Asian race, immigration status, motherhood, help-seeking habits and attitudes, perinatal depression, and specific ACEs).
Project Proposal and MARC Poster Session - June 2, 2026
Below I have attached my MARC project proposal poster (including my research hypothesis), which I presented at my class poster session. The poster session itself went incredibly well! It felt great sharing my passions with many peers, teachers, and parents. I feel incredibly concrete in my research goals and methods and I'm excited for what comes next.
Literature Review - May 8, 2026
I have been working on a literature review, and I'm in the process of finding and note-taking on articles with interesting findings. As of the past week, I have read some papers on how ACEs affect rates of maternal depression and cultural stigma around mental illness in Asian immigrant communities. I have yet to find an article that focuses specifically on Asian immigrant mothers and how ACEs affect their rates of maternal depression. This might be a research gap I want to fill.
Mentorship! - April 13, 2026
One successful Zoom call later, and I finally have a confirmed mentor! I am delighted to announce that I will be executing this passion project under the mentorship of Dr. Victoria F. Keeton at UC Davis, who has expertise in maternal mental health and its intersection with public health factors. I am excited for what comes next!
