Mathematics

Mathematics is the exploration and use of patterns and relationships in quantities, space, and time. Statistics is the exploration and use of patterns and relationships in data. These two disciplines are related, but they use different ways of thinking and solving problems. Both equip students with effective means for investigating, interpreting, explaining, and making sense of the world.

At the heart of it, mathematics is about Problem Solving and Sense Making. At Lytton we are very good at both and are very excited about the opportunities our coursework offers. Over the past few years we have had some tremendous results. Our NCEA results are consistently above national standards.

Mathematics at Lytton is student-focused. We cater for all students and levels, from those students that find mathematics difficult through to gifted students. This means that we offer a wide variety of courses up to University Entrance and Scholarship level.

Our success over the past few years is built on a commitment to excellence. We manage this by the way we teach and support learning in mathematics, and by the provision of tutorial sessions and skilled teacher assistance with our Junior program. At Lytton we love math!

“Mathematics is the most beautiful and most powerful creation of the human spirit.” – Stefan Banach
