Course Selection

This curriculum offers all students a broad education that makes links within and across learning areas, provides for coherent transition, and opens up pathways to future learning. Lytton has developed a fresh, innovative and exciting curriculum for Year 9 students where:

• learning is cross curricular, utilising strengths from several areas at once

• learning and teaching is for the future

Maths, English and Science form a base of our core five learning areas. Each course is developed to have strong cross-curricular links that allow students to utilise learning from different areas to enable success.

The Year 11 Course booklet provides the assistance necessary for students and their parents to make informed decisions regarding their course choices for 2023. Some special features of our senior school courses are:

• Semester courses and full year courses – allowing for a broad range of subjects to suit the needs of the individual student

• Opportunities for multi-level study to provide flexibility A strong focus on the need to gain National Qualifications

• A strong focus on the need to gain National Qualifications

• Opportunities to study tertiary industry qualifications and ready to work training opportunities.

Senior students should discuss their course ideas with their parents and make informed choices. NCEA Level 2 is the National measure of ‘success’ at secondary school. Students who reach the age of 16 in Year 11 and Year 12, should not consider leaving without NCEA Level 2 or without first having discussed options with our staff and Careers Faculty.
