Policies and Procedures

Program Goals

  • Enrich a child’s life through music performance
  • Help students realize a sense of pride in the music they produce through complete preparation and attention to directions
  • Help students develop self-control, discipline and independent learning

Student Expectations

How does one get to Carnegie Hall? Practice! Learning an instrument is a mental and physical activity. As such, it requires constant practice to secure learned skills and build new ones. Students are expected to practice at least a half hour a day. Practice minutes will be recorded.

Playing tests will be given to access personal student achievement

Students are required to be at all performances. Performing ensembles are teams where no one sits on the bench. Everyone is important! When people are missing, the group suffers.

Rules

Rehearsal Rules

All students are expected to be in their seats with all materials needed for rehearsal (i.e. pencil, music folder, oil, grease, reeds, mallets, sticks, rosin, etc.) Students must remain seated unless given permission to leave.

  • Be respectful of others and yourself.
  • Keep comments positive! Remember, we’re all new at this!
  • Always contribute your best. How you practice is how you perform.
  • Raise your hand to speak
  • No food, gum, or beverages will be allowed in the music room at any time.

Related music rules

  • Students should only play their instruments
  • Students may only come into the director’s office with permission

Have all instrument repairs done in a timely fashion. Please have your director inspect your instrument first before having it repaired. Instrument rented through Quinlan and Fabish can be left with the director to be sent out for repairs.
