Fostering is a core part of our mission, leading the way in providing a compassionate, safe community for animals and people through progressive life-saving programs, services, resources, and education, and our vision of a community free of homeless and neglected pets. By fostering, you have taken a huge step toward helping us reach these goals! We want your fostering journey to be enjoyable and successful. There will be bumps in the road, but our staff is here to support you in all ways possible. So, let’s get started.

Your Foster Mission!
Gather Information! Send the foster team photos and videos of your pet! You will know your foster pet the most and can be their biggest advocate! Check out our Foster Homework if you need ideas about what kind of information we are looking for!
Promote! Post a new photo with a fun description of your foster pet on your Facebook page and other social media sources at least once a week. Ask your friends and family to share this and have your email address available for people to contact you directly if they are interested in adopting. Advertise! Tell your foster’s story anywhere and everywhere you go. Tell it at the grocery store, the office, the park. You never know who is looking for a new family member. Make your foster pet the town celebrity!
Bring your foster to LHS for our special adoption days, or to our offsite adoption events. This is a great way to find potential adopters. You can speak with people coming in and promote your foster. Maybe they will adopt right then! Sign up for the LHS E-Blast which has weekly updates on all the programs going on at LHS, including the foster program. This will give you all upcoming events that you are welcome to attend with your foster(s)!
