The Faculty Supervisor is expected to provide support regarding the academic component of the internship. This includes:
Assisting the student in developing their learning goals. Learning goals can focus on:
Putting academic theory into practice
Developing their career readiness competencies
Gaining career-specific skills
We use Internship Contract 2: Learning Objectives & Competencies to capture this specific information. Please note that this is not a required component. It's up to the Faculty Supervisor whether they want the student to complete this contract or not. Some faculty members use it and others don't. It serves the purpose of getting those goals down "on paper".
Determining course assignments can be whatever you want them to be. Contract 1 provides a list of assignments to choose from, however, it is entirely up to the Faculty to determine which would be best to fulfill the academic component of the internship program.
Signing the internship contract, indicating your conviction that the internship, as described, can provide a meaningful and pertinent learning experience for this student, based on their needs and goals.
Engaging with the student and site supervisor throughout the internship.
Assigning a letter grade based on the student's engagement with their internship and internship course, the site supervisor’s evaluation, completion of contracted hours, and any additional required projects.
Hours Worked to Credit-Hours Earned Calculations
We use a 40:1 ratio for calculating credit hours. So for every 40 hours, a student works at an internship site, they can earn 1 credit hour. Students can earn a total of 12 internship credit hours towards their degree. Below are the calculations, based on the 40:1 ratio:
Internship Contract Deadlines:
